Panama Canal and Southern Caribbean – January 2023
Day 10 – At Sea and a Special Performance
We have always enjoyed listening to Steel Pans (sometimes called steel drums) at various Caribbean locations and on our Princess cruise ships. Linda particularly loves this kind of music. On this voyage, as we boarded, we could immediately hear the pans, and little did we know that we would get to know the man playing them and get the opportunity to play a little ourselves. |

A few days later we got to hear Dennis play a full set |
And then something unexpected … we learned that Dennis would be offering beginner steel pan classes, and we signed up! |

A close-up of our beginner pans. What we did not know until our second practice is that our class would perform in the Piazza later in the cruise. |
And here is the performance. Our instructor, Dennis Smith, played the “big boy” pans, while the class played our beginner pans as accompaniment.
