Day 10 – Grand Turk

We were scheduled to spend Saturday, December 7 in Grand Turk.  As we approached the dock, we were confused by the ship’s movement.  We stopped, turned, lingered, and then began moving away from the dock.  The winds on our balcony felt like they were in the 8 to 15 mile per hour range.  Seas were not glassy calm, but they were by no means rough.  During our prior cruises and ones since this day in Grand Turk, we have seen winds and seas far higher than that day.  However, …

The Captain came on the speaker and told us that due to an abundance of caution for the safety of all on board, he was cancelling the port.  Although passengers are not privy to all of the information a Captain has, the decision seemed ludicrous.  But this trip is a back-to-back cruise for us, and we were scheduled to visit Grand Turk again in six days.  Let’s see how that day goes.

Day 11 – At Sea

Most of Day 10 and all of Day 11 were spent at sea, with our ship moseying along at the slowest pace we have ever seen.  Despite the fact they navigated the ship in big loops at times – far from a direct route back to Florida – they had to kill time because we left the Grand Turk area eight hours ahead of schedule.

Despite everything, we were excited.  When we arrive back in Port Canaveral, we will pick up some valuable “cargo” – our dear, dear friends Brandon and Jen!
